Artist Bio

Based in Faversham, Kent, Trudy is an artist and printmaker working from her garden studio, where she creates expressive paintings and meticulously crafted hand-coloured linocuts inspired by the beauty of the natural world.

Trudy studied Fashion Textile Design at Brighton College of Design and Technology, specialising in printed textiles. During her industrial placement, she worked in design studios in London and Paris before joining the renowned Bodansky Studio in Hampstead after graduating. Producing textile collections for the American swimwear market, the studio provided an inspiring environment in which Trudy developed her skills as a designer. One of her textile designs was acquired by Courtauld Prints and featured in British Vogue.

Following a career break to raise her family, Trudy spent twelve years in retail merchandising, where she refined her eye for composition, colour and presentation. During this time, she returned to creative practice through life drawing and printmaking, discovering a passion for linocut that continues to play a central role in her work.

Since becoming a full-time artist in 2015, Trudy has developed a distinctive painting style characterised by expressive brushwork, layered acrylics and carefully balanced colour palettes. Her paintings, often inspired by coastal landscapes and florals, seek to evoke feelings of tranquillity, light and joy.

Alongside her paintings, Trudy creates limited-edition linocuts inspired by the wildlife and countryside surrounding her Kent home. Each design is hand-carved from lino, printed by hand and individually hand-coloured, ensuring every print is unique. Every edition is signed and numbered by the artist.

Trudy has exhibited with the Canterbury Society of Art, Challock Art Group, Beach Creative and the Sarah Baulch Gallery in Herne Bay.

Artist Statement

My love of art began in childhood, encouraged by my parents, who nurtured my creativity and introduced me to some of Britain’s greatest galleries. Visits to the National Gallery, Tate and the artists exhibiting along the railings of Hyde Park left a lasting impression, while masterpieces such as Georges Seurat’s Bathers at Asnières and Henri Matisse’s The Snail continue to inspire my work today.

After studying fashion textile design and working professionally as a textile designer, I eventually returned to my lifelong passion for fine art. Today, my work is driven by a desire to communicate through colour, texture and atmosphere, creating pieces that invite the viewer to pause and connect with the beauty of everyday moments.

Whether painting vibrant floral compositions, peaceful coastal scenes or creating hand-coloured linocuts inspired by wildlife and the Kent countryside, I strive to capture a sense of calm, joy and quiet reflection. I believe art has the power to transport us emotionally—to evoke memories, celebrate nature and offer moments of stillness in our busy lives.

The artists who continue to influence my practice include Claude Monet, Georges Seurat, Raoul Dufy, Fred Cuming, Peter Firmin and Robert Tavener, whose sensitivity to colour, light and landscape continues to inspire my own artistic journey.
