Robin William Easterby is an East Sussex-based artist whose expressive and textural paintings navigate the boundary between abstraction and Impressionism, creating immersive visual experiences. He primarily focuses on landscapes, with recent works exploring ancient woodlands, secluded bodies of water, dramatic seascapes, and vibrant, maximalist floral subjects.

My Artistic Vision

The natural world, in all its facets, seasons, and intricate details, has always been a profound and significant inspiration to me. From open vistas captured in my mind on trips and places closer to home, when striding along coastal paths, climbing through entangled woodlands, or strolling on woven lanes that segment rolling hills and rocky moors, these landscapes define my work. 
I feel a compelling urge to celebrate these elements through my art, which comes out in gestural, intuitive mark-making.
My creative process involves weaving together abstract and impressionistic elements, reflecting the tangible world while simultaneously drawing from my accumulated imagination. I aim to evoke a sense of memory or the feeling of a beloved, familiar place that has created an emotional response, inviting viewers to step into these quiet, often atmospheric, spaces.

Larger works explore the complexity of crashing seas, tumbled trees, and intricate undergrowth, as well as the way light interacts with structure and surface throughout the day and into the night.
In contrast, the small pieces are a more micro version, adopting a cropped approach to these more abstract paintings.

My works are composed using a diverse range of media, including acrylics, oils, watercolours, pencils, pastels, spray paint, and even house paint. These are primarily applied to wooden panels and stretched canvases of various shapes and sizes. I often incorporate found materials such as leaves, seed heads, stones, pine needles, fossils, soil, clay, and sand, adding a unique three-dimensional quality to specific compositions.

My titles often draw inspiration from music, films, books, passages and poems that resonate deeply with me.

I am particularly drawn to the bold and often irreverent spirit of the maverick and provocative outsider artists. The leaders include Turner, Bacon, Richter, Twombly, Nolan, Hockney, and Maggie Hamlin.

Creating these pieces brings a sense of calm to my busy mind, and I sincerely hope that they will bring enjoyment and enrichment to your home or business, adding atmosphere, drama, and imagination to your space for many years to come.
