Artist Bio

Liz Berry is a contemporary British artist based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, where she works from her home studio. After a varied career that included working with children, travelling in America, and later supporting wellbeing through the fitness industry, she returned to her longstanding passion for creativity and painting.

Since beginning her formal art studies in 2017, Liz has continued to develop her practice through further training and is currently studying for a Fine Art degree. Her work is characterised by expressive colour, layered textures, and an intuitive approach, often inspired by flowers, landscapes, architecture, and personal experience.

Working across painting and mixed media, Liz incorporates photography, collage, and found materials to create works rich in atmosphere, memory, and emotion. Sustainability also plays an important role in her practice through the reuse and transformation of older materials and artworks.

Liz is an active member of the Royal Tunbridge Wells Art Society, where she also facilitates weekly acrylic painting sessions.

Artist Statement

I grew up in Kent and have always been drawn to the beautiful scenery that surrounds this area. Some of my strongest early memories come from the garden my dad tended with such care - an abundance of colour, texture, and variety that filled the space with life. I often wonder if my love of colour and my instinct to paint flowers began there, rooted in those vivid childhood impressions.
Choosing to study fine art later in life has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made. Learning alongside my practice continually pushes my work in new directions, encouraging ideas and experimentation. My work is intuitive, shaped by spontaneity, emotion, colour, and lived experience.
While raising my children, I nurtured my creativity by re-purposing found objects and furniture. These materials, already marked by everyday life, sparked a curiosity about narrative, memory, and the quiet details that continue to guide my practice.
My expressive floral paintings celebrate colour, movement, and energy. Through vivid hues and spontaneous mark-making, they explore the joy and vitality found in nature, echoing the same sensitivity to texture and atmosphere that runs throughout my art. Music also plays a strong role in my process - its rhythm and emotion feed into the energy of my painting as I sing, dance, and lose myself in the work.
I believe that in our fast-paced world, taking time to restore and find balance is important. Finding quiet moments to just ‘be’ have become a valuable part of my practice, a time when I can just stop to appreciate the world around me, to recall my immediate responses, perhaps notice things I might otherwise walk past. This allows me to translate beyond just the visual and carry something deeper back into my work. Art has a way of transporting us, and I feel grateful every day to have chosen this path - to create, to grow, and to share my work with others.
