Jane Small
"It is believed by some that ideas come our way and, if we are not ready to create them, they move on to find another collaborator, I feel I must bring my ideas to life before they abandon me for another artist."
Jane is a self-taught sculptor whose work explores life in motion: the tension of a muscle, the turn of a head, the quiet presence of a creature simply being. Working primarily with horses, which she knows intimately as an owner and observer, Jane brings to her pieces an authenticity that is difficult to teach and impossible to fake.
Her creative instincts stretch back to childhood, though life, intervened for many years. It is only in recent times that she has been able to give her work the full attention it deserves, and the results speak for themselves.
Jane works with an unusually wide range of materials including clay, pewter, wood, concrete, and glass, and is currently expanding her practice further with welding next on her list. Scale, she feels, is the next frontier. She plans to build bigger pieces using Pal Tiya Premium - Fortified Cement Clay.
Jane works from her studio in Kent, overlooking the beautiful Romney Marsh.
