Artist Statement

Delphine’s work is deeply rooted in her connection to the natural environment. Drawing inspiration from the amazingly varied landscapes of Dungeness, Rye Harbour, and the surrounding countryside, her paintings reflect both the beauty and resilience found within these places.

Rather than describing a specific view, her paintings explore the feeling of being within a landscape, the shifting light, the textures shaped by weather, and the subtle details that often go unnoticed. A cluster of pebbles, scattered seeds, or a small flower emerging through harsh ground can become a starting point.

Working in mixed media, she builds her surfaces through layers of paper and adhesive, which are then developed with paint, pencil, ink and chalk pastel. This process creates a balance between control and spontaneity, allowing each piece to evolve in a natural and responsive way.

The resulting works are both textural and atmospheric, inviting a slower way of looking, one that connects not only to the landscape itself, but to the memory and sensation of having experienced it.
