The Treasure Seekers - The Bohemian Waxwings Part I & II

Is a series of work that explores our migratory seasonal visitors that arrive in search of food or for favoured breeding conditions. Often travelling incredible distances to reach the treasure they seek.

The Stunning Bohemian Waxwings arrive here during winter from Scandinavia when they have exhausted food sources close to home and then return as spring approaches to breed in Northern Europe. Numbers arriving here very much depend on availability of berries and fruit in Scandinavia.

When food is scarce, they can arrive here in large numbers, which is called an irruption and they can be spotted further and further south in the UK, as they seek new sources of food. The 24 carat gold berries symbolise the value that this crucial food source has for these beautiful visitors to our shores and the circular composition is symbolic of cyclic nature of the waxwings journey each year.
