Artist Bio

Laura Hollis is a Kent-based artist specialising in ceramics and silk painting. Her work is inspired by the natural forms, textures, and colours of the Kent countryside, with pattern and surface playing a central role throughout her practice.

She graduated in 2001 with a degree in Print Media and Surface Design and soon developed a passion for silk painting, creating distinctive work for both adults and children alongside teaching workshops in the medium.

Her interest in ceramics began through evening classes and developed further during her time at Aylesford Pottery, where she now also teaches. She specialises in wheel-thrown ceramics that are cut and altered to reveal fossil-inspired designs, as well as sculptural pieces influenced by coral and natural textures.

Artist Statement

My work is inspired by the natural world and the landscapes of the Kent countryside. I focus on pattern, texture, and form, exploring these themes through both ceramics and silk painting.

In ceramics, I create wheel-thrown pieces that are cut and altered to reveal organic, fossil-like designs, alongside sculptural works inspired by coral and plant forms. In silk painting, I explore fluidity and colour to capture natural patterns in a more expressive way.

Across both practices, I aim to reflect the beauty and detail found in nature through decorative, tactile, and engaging work.
