Collection: Julian Williamson

With a career rooted in craftsmanship and creativity, Julian Williamson is a woodturning artist known for transforming humble timber into striking, contemporary works of art. Julian's journey began not in a studio, but in the kitchen, having trained in catering through a City & Guilds YTS course and further studies at Canterbury College. Despite a passion for cooking, the demanding nature of the hospitality industry led him to seek a new path.
This change brought Julian into the world of bespoke kitchens, where he first discovered a deep appreciation for wood as a medium. Over the years, he refined his skills in spindle machining, bench joinery, and custom carpentry, establishing a solid foundation in craftsmanship. A shift into construction management six years ago, however, made him realise how much he missed the tactile satisfaction of working with his hands.
Driven by curiosity and a desire to reconnect with his craft, he began exploring the art of woodturning. Armed with a lathe, a wealth of online resources, and years of experience with woodworking machinery, he quickly developed a distinctive style. Over time, his work evolved from functional forms to expressive art pieces, incorporating wood stains, acrylics, and metal leaf to create unique, vibrant surfaces.

Today, his passion for woodturning is evident in every piece he creates. His artworks are celebrated for their individuality and craftsmanship, and can be found in galleries, boutiques, and art fairs. With each turn of the lathe, Julian continues to push the boundaries of wood as a medium for artistic expression.
