Collection: Izabela Kulman

Izabela’s artistic journey began in 2002 when she earned her Master’s degree in Fashion Design, Painting, and Photography from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, Poland. During her studies, she actively participated in exhibitions and fashion shows across the country.
In 2012, she became a member of Sklad Doczepiony, a dynamic collective of artists united by a shared passion for creative freedom. Through this collaboration, her work was exhibited widely across Poland. She later expanded her artistic reach, participating in numerous group exhibitions throughout the United Kingdom.
After many years in London, Izabela moved to Kent, where the beauty and tranquillity of the ‘Gardens of England’ gave her artistic practice a new depth, inspiration and direction.
Painting is a journey into the unknown.
Not everything can be spoken, defined or contained within words. That is why I create - to give form to what resists language. By giving shape to my emotions.
My work begins in the intangible: in fleeting thoughts, sudden emotions, quiet revelations. Ideas drift through space, and I try to catch them before they dissolve.
My paintings emerge from a place of deep emotion and presence. Each work becomes a personal fragment, a frame holding a specific experience, reflection or inner truth. I am drawn not only to what is immediately visible, but to what lies beneath the surface. The hidden layers of existence and the quiet forces within us often reveal a richness and depth that feel even more profound than the external world we perceive with our eyes.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by texture, its density, rhythm, structure and tension. Surfaces that carried their own character always compelled me, inviting not only observation but touch. The desire to experience form physically led me beyond the flat canvas. I began to shape, to build, to carve. Painting gradually moved into space.
What was once a flat surface transforms into a living structure, uneven, tactile, sometimes fragile, sometimes raw. These forms invite closeness. They hold presence. Many of my compositions remain open, suggesting movement and expansion, as though the work itself longs to step beyond its material boundaries and enter a new spatial identity.
By combining painting and sculptural elements, I create spaces for dialogue - between matter and void, surface and depth, control and instinct. My practice is an exploration of sensation and perception. It is an attempt to encounter the unknown and to give it temporary form.
Each work stands alone, carrying its own inner narrative. Together, they reflect my personal search for meaning and my ongoing, hopeful dialogue with existence - a journey shaped by curiosity, discovery, and the quiet beauty of being here and now.
Sculpture and painting is my way of experiencing the world.
